Do you know that to handle information you gained, you must have a critical thinking skill? In the last part of our blog about "How not to be Deceived by Media" we learn how to have the right behavior to avoid hoaxes, but how exactly we are going to do that? There are three steps of critical thinking : Description - Analysis - Evaluation

Description This part is basically a technique to gather information as descriptive and complete as possible. You could use the 4W format (Who, What, When, and Where) to dig known information. Remember that using this technique you will only gain descriptive information, but not the reason.

Analysis After you dig descriptive information, you must know the motive or the reason of the information. This is called analysis. You could ask "how?" to know the logical process of the information, "why?" to know the motive, and "what if?" to create alternate possibilities. In this step, you will be able to correlate the connection between the descriptive information and the reason behind it.

Evaluation

This is the last step of critical thinking method. After you know the whole information and the reasons, perhaps you should ask yourself "so what?" or, "what's next?". This is useful for you to make informed decisions, whether to engage on this information or not, so you can differentiate between important and unimportant information.

These three steps of critical thinking and reading is the best way for you to process information. Remember, you must be careful when handling with any information you found, and always keep your mind sharp to avoid being misinformed. Author : Jason. A. Herwindra
